Mason Lewis's Recruitment Took a Winding Road Before Landing at Vanderbilt

Mason Lewis's junior season at Basha put him firmly on the recruiting map. The three-star cornerback recorded 33 tackles and broke up seven passes on defense, while also contributing on offense with rushing and receiving production — the kind of two-way impact that made him one of the more sought-after defensive backs in the state.
Lewis's recruitment took a path that included plenty of twists. He initially committed to Cal, choosing the Golden Bears over early offers from Minnesota and Vanderbilt. As his recruitment continued to develop, Lewis added offers from Arizona State, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Washington State, and North Carolina before ultimately decommitting from Cal and landing with Vanderbilt on October 27, 2025.
The commitment came during Basha's championship 2025 season, in which Lewis was also a driving force on the field — capped by a Defensive MVP and Overall Game MVP performance in Basha's 34-7 win over Chandler in the Open Division championship, a game in which he scored two touchdowns and recorded both a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
For Basha, Lewis's combination of on-field production and a recruitment that drew interest from across the Power Conference landscape made him one of the standout stories of the program's championship run.
