Mica Mountain Captures Its First 4A Championship

Before Mica Mountain became a back-to-back champion, it had to win its first title — and the Thunderbolts did just that in convincing fashion, defeating Arizona College Prep 42-13 on December 7, 2024, to claim the AIA 4A state football championship.
The 29-point margin left little doubt about which team controlled the game. Mica Mountain's offense found room to work throughout, building a lead that Arizona College Prep never seriously threatened. For a Tucson-area program looking to establish itself among the state's best in the 4A ranks, the win was a statement.
The 2024 championship turned out to be the first chapter of a two-year run at the top of Arizona's 4A classification. The following season, Mica Mountain would return to the title game and beat Phoenix Arcadia to become back-to-back champions — a run that started with the 2024 win over Arizona College Prep as its foundation.
